The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) comprises of two papers. The Paper1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs.

Engineering Education

Engineering is the discipline and profession that applies scientific theories, mathematical methods, and empirical evidence to design, create, and analyze technological solutions cognizant of safety, human factors, physical laws, regulations, practicality, and cost. JEE Main 2024 Exam Date

JEE Main 2024 Exam City Slip has been Released for BE,B.Tech (Paper 1) 17th January 2024. Exam Date for session 2 has been revised. It will be now held after 3rd April 2024 .

Exam Dates have been announced for both sessions. It will be conducted between 4th January to 1st February 2024 for session 1. Since 2019  onwards, National Testing Agency (NTA) is the conducting authority to conduct Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.

It is a highly renowned engineering entrance exam which is conducted every year on national level. Through this exam, admission is offered to candidates in UG Engineering programs like B.Tech/ B.E/ B.Arch/ B.Plan at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs & various universities/ institutions recognized by participating state government.

National Testing Agency decided to rearrange the dates of JEE Main 2024  Session 1 due to persistent demand from the student community and their support. Therefore, candidates can visit this page regularly to ensure no missed updates.

JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)

JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 is conducted for B.E./B.Tech admissions at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. JEE Main Paper 1 Syllabus is based on topics from Class XI and XII Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. JEE Main B.E./B.Tech Question Paper consists of 90 questions of which candidates have to answer 77 questions carrying 300 marks. +4 marks are awarded for each correct answer while each incorrect answer leads to a negative marking of -1. 

B.Tech Entrance Exams Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the national and state-level B.Tech entrance examinations are different. They are discussed below to give you an idea about the various criteria to be satisfied to apply for the examination. If any candidate is found to not satisfy the eligibility criteria, his/her candidature might be cancelled without notice. This is why interested candidates must have an idea about the eligibility criteria for the B.Tech entrance examinations.

NTA will conduct JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 in two phases. Phase 1 is scheduled from June 20 to 29 and Phase 2 from July 21 to 30. Registrations for Phase 1 are already closed, the dates for Phase 2 application form will be updated soon at jeemain.nta.ac.in. JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Planning)

Candidates who are appearing for the JEE Main paper 2 (B.Arch / B.Planning) must be aware of the syllabus. Being aware of JEE Main B.Arch syllabus / B. Planning syllabus is very important. One can avoid unnecessary topics. Below are the topics that are included in the JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 syllabus for the candidates who are appearing for B.Arch/ B.planning courses.

Part I Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, and Materials. Objects, Texture related to Architecture and build—environment. Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings. Visualizing. different sides of three-dimensional objects. Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical, and Verbal).
Part II Three-dimensional - perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms, and elements, color texture, harmony, and contrast. Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil. Transformation of forms in both 2-D and 3-D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plans, elevations, and 3-D views of objects. Creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.
Sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urbanscape (public space, market, festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces, etc.), landscape (river fronts, jungles, trees, plants, etc.), and rural life.
Part III (Planning) General Awareness regarding development issues, government programs/schemes, etc., Comprehension, critical thinking, analytical skills, graphs, charts, and map reading skills, simple statistics, CBSE class X Social Sciences topics.

JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern

  • Number of Papers: JEE Main exam is held for two papers – Paper 1 (B.E/ B.Tech) & Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Plan).
  • Mode of examination: The paper is carried out in computer- based test/ online mode. However, Paper 2 (B.Arch) drawing test will be held in offline mode.
  • Number of Shifts: For Paper 1, exam is conducted in two shifts – Shift 1 (9 am to 12 noon) & Shift 2 (3 pm to 6 pm). For Paper 2, exam duration is 3.5 hours.
  • Type of Questions: For Paper 1, objective type of questions is asked. Paper 2, consists of objective as well as subjective type questions.
  • Total questions: There will be total 90 questions in Paper 1 (B.E/ B.Tech) ; total 82 questions in Paper 2A (B.Arch); total 105 questions in Paper 2B (B.Plan).
  • Medium Paper Language: Exam will be conducted in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Telugu, Tamil & Urdu.
  • Marking Scheme: +4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer. -1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. No mark for unanswered question.

JEE Main 2024 Syllabus

Complete JEE Main Syllabus 2024 can be checked by the candidates online from the website. The topics in the syllabus are mostly from the 11th & 12th level syllabus. This year, syllabus has been revised. Fewer topics have been reduced from each subjects.

For catering the decision of various Boards in the country related to syllabus reduction, National Testing Agency provides a choice in one section of each subject of paper 1 & paper 2A/B (part 1). The total number of questions attempted remains same as (Physics-25; chemistry-25; Mathematics-25), wherever relevant.

For Paper 1 (B.E/ B.Tech):

The questions will be asked from various topics covered in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects:

Physics – Laws of Motion, Kinematics, Work, Energy & Power, Gravitation, Rotational Motion, Physics & Measurement, Properties of Solids & Liquids, Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism, Current Electricity, Optics, Electromagnetic Waves, Dual Nature of Matter & Radiation, Electronic Devices, Atoms & Nuclei etc.

Chemistry – Physical Chemistry- Atomic structure, chemical thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, some basic concepts in chemistry, equilibrium, states of matter etc.

Organic Chemistry– Purification & characterization of organic compounds, some basics principles of organic chemistry, chemistry in everyday life, Organic compounds containing nitrogen, organic compounds containing halogens etc.

Inorganic Chemistry– Block elements (alkali & alkaline earth metals), environmental chemistry, d & f block elements, Hydrogen, classifications of elements & periodicity in properties, block element group 13 to group 18 elements, etc.

Mathematics – Sets, Relations & Functions, Matrices & Determinants, Permutations & Combinations, Complex Numbers &  Sequences & Series, Differential Equations, Integral Calculus, Limit, Continuity & Differentiability, Three Dimensional Geometry, Vector Algebra,Trigonometry etc.

For Paper 2 A (B.Arch):

Part I: The topics in Part 1 of Paper 2A will contain questions from Mathematics subject. The topics are similar to the ones as mentioned above in Paper 1 of Mathematics.

Part II: An aptitude test will be conducted in this part. Questions will be asked from topics -Awareness of person, places, texture & objects related to architecture & building, visualizing 3D objects from 2D drawings, buildings &materials, analytical reasoning, etc.

Part III: This part covers the drawing test in which candidates are asked to sketch scenes & activities from memory of urbanscape (festivals, public space, street scenes, market, monuments, recreational spaces, etc). rural life & landscape (riverfronts, Jungle, Gardens, trees, Plants, etc.). This part is conducted in drawing sheet and students are advised to bring pencils, geometry box, crasets, pencils, crayons, etc.

For Paper 2 B (B.Plan):

Part I: The topics in Part 1 of Paper 2B will contain questions from Mathematics subject. The topics are similar to the ones as mentioned above in Paper 1 & 2A of Mathematics.

Part II: An aptitude test will be conducted in this part. Questions will be asked from topics -Awareness of person, places, texture & objects related to architecture & building, visualizing 3D objects from 2D drawings, buildings &materials, analytical reasoning, etc.

Part III: This part will contain questions related to various topics of planning. The part will cover various questions from topics – General Awareness, Social sciences & Thinking skills.

JEE Main Preparation Tips 2024

  • Check complete pattern & syllabus details briefly so as to avoid any confusion later.
  • For the ones appearing for JEE main exam for first time, make sure you have complete knowledge about the exam.
  • Start with making a strategy or planned routine for every day study.
  • Follow the strategy every day in a disciplined manner.
  • After completing syllabus, do a quick revision.
  • Side by side prepare notes separately and go through it once a week.
  • Revision is the key, so must revise all the prepared notes few days before appearing for exam.
  • Analyze you level of exam preparation by taking mock tests. You can also appear for ‘National Test Abhyas’ which is a mobile app launched by NTA for competitive exams.
  • Solve sample papers or previous year papers to check level.
  • Study only from the books or study materials recommended by the experts.
